2016 Caterham Seven 420R

The Caterham Seven 420R is the sharp end of the S3-chassis range: a roughly 560 kg car with a Ford-sourced 2.0-litre Duratec making around 210 bhp, a six-speed manual and a limited-slip differential. It is one of the quickest Sevens you can buy without moving to the supercharged R500 or 620 models, and its power-to-weight ratio is well into supercar territory.

This 2016 example has covered only 2,136 miles, which is very little for a car of this age and a good sign that it has been used sparingly rather than driven hard on track. The wider S3 chassis gives more cockpit room than the older narrow-bodied Sevens, so it suits taller drivers better. It is offered in manual form and is priced at £35,000.

It is being sold by Caterham Silverstone, a franchised dealer. The page does not give colour, ownership history or service records, so check those at inspection. Low-mileage 420Rs are scarce, and this one should appeal to anyone who wants the pace and track-day ability of a 420R without the wear of a heavily used example.
