This 1961 Mercedes-Benz 190SL is a right-hand-drive car with matching numbers and both a factory hardtop and a new black soft top. That combination is uncommon in right-hand drive, and the dealer says only a handful remain. It is finished in Teal Blue (code 888), a colour change from its original paint, with black leather, black carpets, a white steering wheel and gear knob, and a factory radio. It has a four-speed manual gearbox.
The car was first registered in Trinidad and Tobago and returned to the UK in 1965. It has had four previous owners, spent a long period in storage, and has been worked on by several London specialists. The history file runs back to 1965 and is said to be over three inches thick, with invoices and old MOTs.
A restorer in Spain recently stripped and repainted the car. All the chrome has been replaced, and it has new carpets, engine and gearbox mountings, belts, bushes, tyres and rear lamp lenses. The original Solex carburettors have been rebuilt. The car shows 81,000 miles and was recently displayed at the Salon Privé Concours de Vente at Blenheim Palace.
