The 190 SL gave Mercedes-Benz a more affordable roadster in the 300 SL's image, built on the Type 180 unitary platform rather than a spaceframe. This 1959 car is chassis 9500289, one of 2,398 190 SLs made that year. Its 1,897cc four-cylinder, twin-Solex engine is rated at 120bhp.
Mercedes-Benz of North America confirmed in 1982 that the car left the factory in White Grey (DB158) with a two-tone black and red interior. It spent decades in the USA with one owner, George Dubois, in Texas and then Oregon. His file survives with correspondence, receipts, club newsletters, the owner's manual, service book, parts catalogue and photographs of restoration work.
The car reached the UK by 2011 and was registered 545 YUE. Redcastle Classics recommissioned it, and JWorx Automotive rebuilt the engine in 2015. It is back in its original exterior colour, now with a red interior. It has covered only 5,000km in the last eight years and had further recommissioning in July 2026. The dealer previously sold it to its most recent owner.
