The Elan Sprint was the final and most potent development of Lotus's lightweight roadster, with the big-valve twin-cam engine rated at 126 bhp. This 1971 drophead coupé is finished in Lotus Yellow and has been rebuilt from the chassis upwards, with a detachable roll hoop fitted.
The engine was rebuilt by twin-cam specialists QED (Quorn Engine Developments). A rolling road printout shows a peak of 132 bhp, a little above the standard figure. Other work includes a reconditioned radiator and a stainless steel exhaust. The original trim and the straight-grained dashboard with its Smiths instruments are described as being in very good condition.
The history file runs back to 1971 and includes rare Process Stage cards and the original Lotus Cars Ltd warranty. The car was supplied new through Lotus main agent Hexagon of Highgate and then stayed with one Surrey owner for around 35 years. It is offered serviced and with a 12-month MOT, and it is road tax exempt.

The maker’s official figures for this model, not measurements of this car (Lotus's quoted 126 bhp (gross) for the 1558cc big-valve Twin Cam. Weight, 0-60 and top speed are left null because the widely quoted figures come from magazine road tests, not Lotus.).
