Lagonda M45

This 1935 Lagonda M45 wears Vanden Plas all-weather tourer coachwork, and the dealer believes it is one of only three built by the coachbuilder on the M45 chassis. Power comes from the 4.5-litre Meadows inline-six, here with a fast cam and a replacement block after the original cracked. The original block is included in the sale.

Its history is well documented. A buff log book, chassis records and MOT certificates show six owners between 1950 and 2007, among them Donald Overy, who kept it for 12 years. He fitted lighter wings from his M45 Rapide to race it, possibly in a VSCC event at Silverstone in 1966. A later owner had the mechanicals refreshed and the car repainted, and it was then toured to Orkney and Shetland and to Le Mans. The car is also featured in Brian Smith's book on Vanden Plas coachbuilding.

The most recent owner commissioned a nut-and-bolt restoration. Steve Penny of Vintage Carriage Bodies rebuilt the aluminium body and woodwork, and the spare wheel moved to the wings to free up the boot. The interior was retrimmed in Connolly leather. It won the 2021 Concours Cup, the 2021 Car Club Cup and a 2024 Class Cup for M35, M45 and LG45 models. The hood and tonneau are described as serviceable rather than new. Recorded mileage is 627.
