Lagonda V12 Freestone & Webb Sports Saloon

The Lagonda V12 was W O Bentley's answer to the best of the 1930s, a 4.5-litre twelve-cylinder car with independent front suspension and the performance to top 100mph in standard form. Deliveries began only in 1938, and fewer than 190 were built before the war stopped production, which makes any survivor scarce.

This example, chassis 14080, carries sports saloon coachwork by Freestone & Webb. It was first registered as FXB 119 on 10 May 1939 to a owner in Glasgow, and had three UK owners before moving to Switzerland in the early 1990s. A German collector bought it in 2002, and it later passed through a private collection before selling at Bonhams in December 2011.

The odometer shows 57,423 miles, described as believed correct. The interior is original and patinated, and the woodwork has been removed and refinished. Specialists Bishopgray and Alpine Eagle have worked on it, including a full overhaul of the braking system in September 2018, with bills available. The gearbox is full synchromesh. Documents include a FIVA identity card copy, an annulled Swiss registration document and old German papers. The page shows the price as accepted.
