Lagonda 3 Litre DHC By Carlton

This 1932 Lagonda 3 Litre wears a drophead coupé body by Carlton, one of only three such cars believed to be known. It is thought to be the only one with cycle wings and a dickie seat, which gives it a lighter, more sporting look than most coachbuilt vintage tourers. The folding hood and wind-up windows let it work as an open or closed car.

The 3 Litre arrived in 1928 with a 2,931cc six-cylinder engine, bored out from the 16/65's. It has seven main bearings, twin SU carburettors and a Scintilla magneto. This car has the earlier Z-type chassis with a 10ft 9in wheelbase and Lagonda's own four-speed gearbox.

The engine was fully rebuilt in 2013-2014 by specialists, with new Arrow conrods and shell bearings, new liners and pistons, and a rebuilt head, carburettors, magneto and radiator. The clutch has been relined, the rear axle rebuilt and new road wheels fitted. The dealer describes it as in very good touring order rather than show condition. The current owner has had it for thirteen years. The price is stated as offers over or near £68,000 (ono).
