This is a recreation of the 1957 Jaguar XKSS, the road-going D-Type, completed in 2021. It is registered and IVA certified as a 2021 Realm Heritage XKSS, with the body mounted on a Raynard racing chassis. The build was documented with a photographic record.
The 4.2-litre Jaguar six has been stripped, re-bored and rebuilt with new pistons, re-ground crank, new bearings and a rebuilt cylinder head. It runs a triple Weber carburettor set, D-Type style wet-sump cam covers and ceramic-coated manifolds. Brakes, suspension, rear cage, differential and hubs have been renewed or overhauled, and the car has been rewired.
Modern-use upgrades include a five-speed gearbox, a high-power cooling fan, a high-torque starter and a new propshaft. It has new wheels and tyres and a new hood frame, mohair hood and cover. The page quotes almost 1,200 miles since the build, an approximate figure.
