Chevron B8 BMW
1968
Mitchell Curated
1970 · Blue
Listed today at Taylor & Crawley, London. Last checked today.
The Chevron B16 was Derek Bennett's replacement for the B8 in 2-litre Group 6 sports car racing, with a spaceframe and a body that left the car just 36 inches tall. It won first time out at the Nürburgring 500km in 1969 with Brian Redman driving. This example, chassis DBE 29, was delivered new in late 1970 to Denys Dobbie's DART team, and Graham Birrell won its first race at Ingliston.
The car has had a long and varied life. It was registered for the road in 1973 as NET 650M and has since passed through owners in Ireland, Switzerland and Sweden, wearing several liveries before returning to its original DART blue. It is regarded as one of only five truly original B16s with unquestioned history.
Recent racing includes the Masters FIA Sportscars series, the Monterey Historics and the Le Mans Classic. It comes with 2016 FIA HTP papers, a spares package with an engine, nose, wheels and gear ratios, and a large history file of registration documents, bills of sale, correspondence and race results.
