About this car

The M1 was BMW's only mid-engined production supercar and the car that started the M division's road-going story. Styled by Giugiaro, it was built through a tangle of Italian and German contractors after Lamborghini's financial troubles stalled the original plan, with a tubular steel space frame, fibreglass body and the M88 3.5-litre straight-six behind the cabin.

This is one of the last built, delivered through BMW's concessionaire in Kontich, Belgium, and first registered on 29 December 1980 to a leasing company. It later spent time in Canada and Switzerland, and its longest keeper owned it for 27 years, mostly on collector plates. The page gives 39,500 km (about 24,500 miles), five previous owners and a full service history.

The car is described as factory standard, apart from half-leather Motorsport seats, in Nachtblau with black leather and grey cloth. It comes with service books, workshop manual, tool kit, first aid kit, radio and original BMW brochures, including the rare luggage and upholstery leaflets. Pre-sale work includes a new clutch, water pump, fuel pump belt, hoses, tyres and battery, rebuilt calipers and a protected space frame. The dealer says the fuel and oil tanks have been checked and are free of corrosion.
