The DB5 is the definitive 1960s Aston Martin, a 4.0-litre, triple-SU-carburettor development of the DB4 with Touring Superleggera bodywork. Just 1,021 were built between 1963 and 1965, and its fame rests largely on Goldfinger. This car is finished in Silver Birch, the colour of the film car, over burgundy, and is UK supplied with a manual gearbox and right-hand drive.
It was completed in October 1963 and sent to Mill Garages of Sunderland in February 1964, originally in Dubonnet over Dark Grey Connolly leather and registered RJX 1. By the mid-1970s it had been taken off the road, and it was not recommissioned until 1999. It was then stored for a long period before a bare-metal restoration, completed in 2015 by Wren Classics, later Tudor & Black, with finishing work by JD Classics.
The history file covers about 40 years of invoices. DK Engineering carried out a mechanical recommissioning of just under £12,000 in 2019 and sold the car to its current keeper. It has since been serviced by Nicholas Mee & Co, including a carburettor overhaul and a wiring fix. It shows 58,400 miles and is offered at a price on application.
