This 1953 Aston Martin DB2 has been upgraded to Vantage specification, with a higher compression ratio and larger carburettors lifting the W. O. Bentley-designed 2.6-litre straight-six from 105 to 125 horsepower. The page describes it as Mille Miglia eligible and prepared for competitive rallying, and it has had just three owners from new.
History begins with its first owner, H. L. Quartermain of Virginia Water, Surrey, in April 1953. A near-full engine rebuild followed in 1965, with new parts, a fresh clutch, propshaft and exhaust. The next owner kept it for more than 35 years, and in 2001 it completed the 3,000-mile Classic Marathon Rally from Belgium to Croatia. A comprehensive mechanical rebuild was carried out in 2003 by A. Archer of Great Dunmow, and a large history file documents the work.
It is finished in maroon with a light patina from rallying, over beige leather described as in very good condition. No mileage is stated. The price is shown as accepted, suggesting an offer is already in place.
