About this car

This is chassis 9PP, one of the "PP" Silver Ghosts. When the First World War stopped car production, part-built chassis were set aside so aero engines could take priority. They were revived after the Armistice with postponed-series numbers, combining prewar components with improvements such as electric starting. This is the ninth built, in early 1919, which is why it is described as 1915/1919. Some enthusiasts rate the PP series as the best of all Ghosts.

The coachwork is by Barker & Co: an open-drive limousine with a hard roof over the driver. The roof section can be removed for open-fronted driving, and a fabric covering can be rolled out in bad weather. The paintwork is in the period "Dutch Pink" style of vertical green, black and yellow stripes. The rear compartment is trimmed in Bedford cord and brocade, with twin fold-out occasional seats, a fold-out table, a speaking tube, rear curtains and a smokers' hatch in the roof. The front seats are in black leather.

The dealer says the car had decades of family ownership before it was sold on a few years ago. The current owner had the engine fully rebuilt by Carl Ford Engineering at a cost of about £30,000, and the car was serviced afterwards. It is reported to reach 60 mph easily. The page shows the price as "Accepted", so an offer appears to have been agreed.

The maker’s official figures for this model, not measurements of this car (Rolls-Royce 40/50 HP chassis spec (7,428cc side-valve straight-six, built at Derby). Rolls-Royce never published power, and weight and performance depended on each car's coachwork (here Barker), so those are left blank.).
