About this car

Chassis 60AU is one of the last Silver Ghosts built. It went on test in September 1924 as a short-chassis rolling chassis with nickel fittings, a radiator an inch taller than standard and springing chosen for a light owner-driver saloon. Being a late car, it has the four-wheel servo-assisted brakes and Autovac fuel feed that came with the final development of the model. Atcherley of Birmingham was due to body it, and only ten Atcherley bodies are known on Rolls-Royce chassis.

Its first owner was Christopher Bird of the custard-making family, who kept it for a year. It was later converted into a hearse, then spent decades with Greville Neale, who bought the bare chassis for £40 in 1957. In 1979 the coachbuilder Tony Robinson made the Barker-style barrel-bodied dual-cowl tourer body it wears now, followed by a concours-standard restoration.

The current owners acquired it in 2024 and prepared it for touring. It has an overdrive, straight-sided wheels, scuttle ventilators, adjustable lumbar supports and a three-case trunk, plus all-new weather equipment with a full set of side screens. It is finished in eggshell Dove Grey with tan hide and a polished aluminium bonnet, and the page says it has done the 2025 Tour of Ireland, the 2025 Baltic Tour and the 2026 Normandy Tour.

Performance

The maker’s official figures for this model, not measurements of this car (Engine spec (7,428 cc side-valve straight-six) is Rolls-Royce's documented chassis spec; RR never published power (only 'sufficient'), and weight/performance varied by coachwork, so these are null. Country is null because 1924 chassis were built at both Derby (UK) and Springfield (USA), and 'Barker style' may mean a replica body.).
