Rolls-Royce Silver Ghost Arthur Mulliner Enclosed Drive Limousine

This 1924 Silver Ghost is a long-chassis car (AU21) carrying an enclosed drive limousine body by Arthur Mulliner of Northampton. It was first registered to F. J. Ward, a rubber magnate living in Theydon Bois, and wears the registration PU5650.

The engine has been the focus of the restoration. Marque specialists Ristes of Nottingham stripped it completely and rebuilt it to an as-new standard, at a cost of £64,000 for the engine alone according to the dealer. It has covered about 2,000 miles since. The chassis and braking system also received attention, and the car has new brake shoes on all four wheels, new tyres and leather gaiters on the springs. The seller reports taking it on a long trip through Normandy.

The coachwork is finished in black over blue. The front compartment is trimmed in black leather and the rear in Bedford cord with gold-thread embroidery. Fiddleback mahogany, burr walnut and satinwood banding run throughout the cabin, which also has a sliding glass division, a skylight and ceiling lighting. Twin side mounts and a re-made Brexton trunk complete the exterior.
