The Brooklands was the competition version of Riley's Nine, with a chassis developed from work by Parry-Thomas and Reid Railton and refined by Thomson & Taylor. Its wheelbase is more than ten inches shorter than the standard car's, and its twin-cam 1087cc engine has high-compression pistons, different camshafts and twin carburettors. Only 110 were built between 1928 and 1932.
This car, chassis 8083, has a long and well-documented competition record. It went to Australia in the 1930s and was entered in the 1939 Australian Grand Prix at Lobethal, though it didn't finish. It stayed there through several racing owners until the early 1990s, when it returned to the UK needing restoration.
A Danish owner rebuilt it to original specification from 1998, with a new body, and used it on the 2005 Mille Miglia. Later it was a HERO rally car, finishing second in class on the 2013 London-Lisbon Rally and appearing in other events. It now has Blockley tyres and a rally tripmeter. The dealer lists no price, and asks buyers to enquire.
