The six-cylinder Kestrel is the rarer face of Riley's 1930s saloon range, and the dealer says only three are on the Riley Register. This one was delivered new in March 1935 through a dealer in Edinburgh, and it now sits in southern Switzerland, where it can be viewed.
The current owner is an engineer with his own machine shop. He has spent about CHF 90,000 on the car since buying it, including a full engine rebuild and a mechanical overhaul. Power goes through a Wilson pre-select gearbox. The car has covered 70,952 indicated miles.
It is finished in black, as it was when new, and has a large sliding sunroof. The wire wheels are painted apple green to match the green leather. The rear seats and door cards keep largely original leather, and matching new hide has been fitted to the front seats. The history file holds a stack of bills and papers, along with an owner's diary that records the work done and the journeys made.
