The Riley Imp was the road-going distillation of the Brooklands racers: a short 7ft 6in wheelbase, a low-slung chassis and a two-seat body with a long bonnet and abbreviated tail. Only around 120 are believed to have been built, which makes any survivor a rarity. Power comes from Riley's 1,087cc Nine, a twin-camshaft four, driving through a four-speed pre-selector gearbox.
This 1934 car was supplied new by Boon & Porter of Castelnau, Barnes, and stayed with its first owner until 1948. In 1959 it joined the collection of Riley enthusiast Walter Smith Williams, who kept it for 46 years. It was damaged in a garage fire during that time and later restored. Bonhams sold it in 2005, and it was restored further before changing hands again in 2015.
Marque specialists Blue Diamond and Keith Pointing carried out a full mechanical overhaul in 2016 and 2017. The car then did several rallies in France. The current owner brought it back to the UK and has raced it in historic events. It comes with a history file and invoices, plus its tonneau cover, side screens and hood. It is eligible for events including the Le Mans Classic.
