Porsche 356 A

This 1959 356 A coupe by Reutter began life as a US-market car. It was delivered new through Norman Scott Inc. in Houston, Texas, in Ruby Red, and the Porsche Certificate of Authenticity records sealed beam headlights and USA bumpers among its options. The original Type 616/1 engine is still in the car. The gearbox was replaced at some point while it was in America.

The current owner found it in Marfa, West Texas, in 2009. It was in a heavily patinated, repainted state and was shipped to the UK, then registered here in 2010 as 716 XUY. Restoration was carried out in three phases by marque specialists including Bill Russell, Roger Bray Restorations and PRS Services. The work covered new floor panels, a rebuilt engine and gearbox, rebuilt brakes, new door skins and a respray in Steingrau, a period Porsche special order colour. The aim was a reliable car that kept its Texan character, so the Texas licence stickers, ivory dashboard knobs and original Motorola radio remain.

The listing says the car has no rust and comes with a detailed history file, the original driver's manual and the service book. Recent work includes a dynamo rebuild, a new voltage regulator and battery, and a service. It was runner-up in the concours at Laon Historique and was displayed on the grid at Goodwood in 2019. It is left-hand drive and is offered through the dealer's brokerage service, with details supplied by the vendor.
