The 300SL Roadster replaced the Gullwing coupe in 1957 and kept its fuel-injected 3.0-litre straight-six, while gaining a revised rear axle with a low-pivot swing-axle design. Only 1,858 were built, and most went to the United States. This one was delivered there in October 1958, originally in DB180 Silver Grey Metallic with a red leather interior.
By 1988 the car was back in Germany, where a collector commissioned a bare-metal restoration by Borm Autolackiererei. It was refinished in Konigs Blau over Biscuit leather, a colour scheme it still wears. It was later imported to the UK by Antony Cluck, who kept it until 2002, and has been in the ownership of Barry Burnett since 2005.
The engine and injection pump were fully rebuilt by specialist Chris Shenton, work started in 2019 and finished in October 2023 at a cost of more than £60,000. The odometer shows just over 74,000 miles, which reflects regular use over the years. The price is on application.
