The 280 SL was the final and most powerful expression of the W113 'Pagoda', Paul Bracq's compromise between the costly 300 SL and the more modest 190 SL. Its 2.8-litre inline-six, aluminium bonnet, boot lid and door skins, and the concave-roofed hardtop that gave the car its nickname make it one of the most usable classic Mercedes roadsters.
This white 1970 car was supplied new by Alan Day Limited of Finchley Road to its first owner in Wembley on 1 August 1970. It has had five owners from new and is UK supplied. It showed 62,833 miles at the time of listing.
After passing through Bonhams in July 2011, the third owner sent it to John Haynes for a comprehensive bodywork and mechanical restoration. The cylinder head was overhauled in 2018 at a cost of nearly £9,000. A history file holds restoration photographs, bills, MOTs, old tax discs and copies of previous log books.

The maker’s official figures for this model, not measurements of this car (Mercedes-Benz factory data for the W113 280 SL (170 PS DIN, 200 km/h). Weight withheld because the published figure is uncertain. Only 0-100 km/h was published, so 0-60 is null.).
