The 300SL Roadster replaced the Gullwing coupe in 1957 with conventional doors, lower sills and a more usable boot, while keeping the tilted, fuel-injected 3.0-litre straight-six. Only 1,858 were built before production ended in 1963, and this one was made in September 1960.
It left the factory in DB166 Blue Grey with a black leather interior. Originally supplied to the US, it came to the UK in 1996 and was part of Lord Irvine Laidlaw's collection, having first had a body-off restoration overseen by SL specialist John Olson. The page states that the engine, gearbox, 3.89 rear axle, steering box and king pins are the factory matching-number components.
The engine was fully rebuilt by Riedling and Mouser in 2025, with dyno testing before installation. The dealer has since repainted the car in the correct Glasurit materials, retrimmed the interior and soft-top in German leather, renewed seals and fixings, reworked the brightwork and carried out a full service. Mileage is shown as 75,400 and the price is on application.

The maker’s official figures for this model, not measurements of this car (Mercedes-Benz Classic published data for the 300 SL Roadster (215 PS / 158 kW, converted to bhp). Top speed is omitted because it varied with axle ratio. Weight and 0-60 are omitted because no confident factory figure was available.).
