The 220S Cabriolet was one of the most exclusive Mercedes-Benz models of the 1950s, a hand-built Ponton-era open car made in small numbers. This 1956 example is left-hand drive and was first registered in Italy, and it is powered by the 2.2-litre inline-six.
The car spent decades in California. The owner of Lafayette Engineering took it in part payment in the 1990s and restored it over some 25 years between client jobs, sourcing genuine Mercedes parts from Germany. He died before the work was finished, and it has since been completed. The bodywork was fully restored, and the interior has had a recent full retrim in the UK.
It comes with its original three-piece Karl Baisch fitted luggage set and an advisory-free MOT valid until 18 June 2027. Shortly after the restoration was completed it was entered in a show of about 300 cars and won Best in Show. Mileage, colour and the number of previous owners are not stated.
