Maserati Mistral 3.7 Spyder

The Mistral Spyder was Maserati's open version of the Frua-designed coupé, restyled by Michelotti and built by Maggiora in Turin. Only 124 were made, and this 3.7-litre car is the last Maserati road car to use the twin-plug straight-six, here with three double-barrel Weber carburettors and a five-speed manual gearbox.

This example was delivered new to the UK in right-hand drive, a configuration the dealer says was ordered on only a small number of Spyders. It has Borrani wire wheels and the optional factory alloy hardtop. It was first finished in Rosso Arcoveggio with a magnolia interior and registered HUJ 310D to a London banker. It is now grey with a tan leather interior.

The history file holds tens of invoices going back to the 1980s, plus the original green V5, and it supports the 88,630 miles showing on the odometer. Vale Cottage Motors carried out a major bodywork restoration in 2012, and Bill McGrath Maserati has serviced the car in recent years. It has stayed in the UK throughout.
