Chassis 701-1 is the first March 701 Formula One car, the model that launched March Grand Prix Engineering into the 1970 season. Works driver Chris Amon won the non-championship International Trophy at Silverstone in it and took second places at the Belgian and French Grands Prix, along with a run of other top-five finishes.
The car still holds the outright lap record for the original Spa-Francorchamps circuit, at 3 minutes 27.4 seconds. At the end of 1970 it was sold to Tom Wheatcroft for his Grand Prix museum. It was entered once more, for Derek Bell in the 1971 Argentine Grand Prix, where it retired.
It then hung on the wall of the Donington Collection for decades. The dealer describes it as recently taken down and in absolutely original condition. It is finished in red.
