Lotus 24 BRM

Chassis 946 is one of only 10 Lotus 24s built, and was supplied new by Lotus in 1962 with the 1.5-litre BRM P56 V8. In period it contested the British, German, Italian and Mexican Grands Prix with drivers including Wolfgang Seidel, Gunter Seifert, Tony Shelly and Paddy Driver. It ran with both rear-exit exhausts and the stack pipes seen on works BRM Formula 1 cars of the time.

The car was crashed in 1963 and spent decades dismantled. Peter Denty Racing then restored it, fitting a replacement chassis built to original Lotus drawings, a new BRM V8 built by Hall & Hall at a cost of more than £100,000, and a period-correct Hewland gearbox.

Since 2014 it has been invited to Goodwood's Glover Trophy seven times. It finished outside the top five only twice, with two third places, two front-row starts and, most recently, second overall. It has also run at the front in HGPCA racing. The current owner had it prepared by Virtuoso Performance in California, with further engine development, new shock absorbers and a weight-saving programme. The major components are said to be well within their running hours, and a spare set of wheels is included.
