Lotus 15 Series 3

Chassis 620-3 is a late-production Lotus 15 Series 3, one of three works cars of that type. Completed at Hornsey on 7 March 1959, it was assigned to Innes Ireland and raced under the Team Lotus banner with factory support. Ireland took two wins at Crystal Palace that season before an accident at Brands Hatch ended the year early.

Its later history is unusually well traced. Under Peter Heath it won the 1961 Macau Grand Prix and the 1962 Malay Grand Prix. It then passed through owners in Singapore, Japan and the UK. Duncan Dayton commissioned a restoration by Sid Hoole in the early 2000s. The late Lotus 15 Registrar, Bill Colson, inspected the car in 2005 and confirmed that its bodywork is original. That bodywork has since been restored by Shapecraft. The car took pole position in the 2024 Sussex Trophy at the Goodwood Revival.

It is powered by a 2-litre Crosthwaite & Gardner Coventry Climax FPF engine, recently rebuilt by Hall & Hall with Init Racing upgrades and run only on the dyno since. The ZF gearbox was refreshed at the same time, and the BMC differential has a limited-slip unit. The car comes with two alternative diff ratios, spare wheels, two bucket seats, a rear-mounted fuel tank and a case of spares. FIA HTP papers are valid through December 2026.
