The Aurelia B24 Spider America is among the most admired Pininfarina designs of the 1950s, and this one is rarer than most. Only 240 Spider Americas were built and around 59 of them were right-hand drive. Factory records show this car, chassis B24-1057, was finished in July 1955 in black, one of just three RHD Spiders painted that colour, and it was the third last RHD Spider made.
The history is well documented. A 1960 UK logbook lists a succession of owners, and by then the car had been repainted red and fitted with a replacement engine. Brian Collins, a Lancia Motor Club life member, bought it in 1977 and rebuilt it in the early 1980s with a stronger 6th Series front axle and gearbox. Supercar Classics magazine covered the work in 1985. The current owner bought the car in 1986, so ownership has lasted almost 40 years.
About 20 years into that ownership the car was refinished from bare metal in its original black, with a pastel turquoise retrim inside. A replica aluminium Fontana-style hardtop was made for it. In 2021 Omicron Engineering rebuilt the current engine, B24-1540, with new liners, pistons, camshaft, valves and flywheel. The brakes were overhauled, a new clutch and an electric fuel pump were fitted, and a set of unused old-stock Borrani wire wheels comes with the car. It is eligible for the Mille Miglia retrospective. No price or mileage is given on the page.
