Jaguar MKIV 3.5 DHC

This is a 1948 Jaguar MKIV 3.5 drophead coupé, one of only around 184 right-hand-drive cars with the 3.5-litre engine. The dealer identifies it as number 79. It left the factory in Suede Green and has covered a stated 79,850 miles from new, having never been dismantled or fully restored.

The history file is unusually full. It holds 30 MOT certificates going back to 1968, 30 tax discs from 1953 and Jaguar Driver's Club correspondence from the early 1990s confirming its original equipment. That equipment includes Ace wheel discs, mounted hand lamps and Windtone horns. The car took second place at a Jaguar Driver's Club concours at Beaulieu in 1992. Ownership was in one family from 1970 until 2015. Since then it has had two further keepers.

The engine was rebuilt in the 1980s with new liners, pistons, valves and guides, a reground crankshaft and a new clutch. Wire wheels were rebuilt and fitted with new tyres under a later owner. The original leather, door cards and woodwork are retained. The paint is old and faded, with some old local repairs, and the dealer has left it as found. The body and underside are described as strong and the hood as older but sound.
