This 1962 Jaguar MKII 3.8 is an original demonstrator for John Coombs, the Guildford dealer and racing team owner whose tuned Jaguars were aimed at customers wanting a fast, well-handling road car. Built in March 1962 and registered on 3rd April, it was one of two Coombs demonstrators and is described as the only one with the vinyl-covered roof panel.
The Coombs work was done from new by Ken Bell, later an owner, and covers the Basic, Specialist and Competition options. It includes a 9.5:1 compression engine with lightened flywheel, 2-inch SU carburettors, a machined head, a hand-made stainless exhaust, high-ratio steering, uprated front springs, Vari-Flow dampers and a long-range 9.4-gallon fuel tank. Ex-works extras include painted wire wheels, a close-ratio gearbox and reclining seats.
It is finished in its original Carmen Red with a black leather and wood interior, and shows 92,700 miles. The car has been restored, and the gearbox and limited-slip differential have recently been rebuilt, with the prop-shaft rebalanced. The 'BUY 1' plate it often wore is not included. Price on application.

The maker’s official figures for this model, not measurements of this car (Layout and engine size from Jaguar's 3.8 Mk2 specification; no factory figures exist for Coombs cars, which were modified one by one, so performance figures are left empty.).
