This is car number 38 of the 50 Commemorative Series 3 E-Type Roadsters that Jaguar built in 1974 to mark the end of 13 years of production. Each carries a brass plaque bearing Sir William Lyons's signature and the car's chassis number. Black paint with cinnamon hide was the intended specification for all of them, apart from the penultimate car, which was painted British Racing Green for a collector.
Sold new in July 1974 by Stevensons Motors of Tunbridge Wells, it still wears its original registration, TKO 730N. It is a manual, which the dealer says rarely comes to market, as these cars usually change hands privately between owners. The original factory hardtop is included.
The paintwork is described as very good, with an interior that is mostly original and shows patina. Changes include stainless steel wire wheels, exhaust and braided brake hoses, an aluminium radiator, upgraded ignition, adjustable GAZ dampers and an immobiliser switch. Five history folders document the work, including a photographed engine rebuild, MOT certificates, handbooks and brochures. The car won Jaguar Driver's Club concours awards around 1999 and 2000, and has made five trips to Le Mans.
