This is chassis 01 of the BRM P167, the Can-Am car the British team built for the 1971 season. It first raced in plain white and was driven by a varied line-up: Brian Redman, Howden Ganley, Helmut Marko, Vern Schuppan and David Hepworth.
Its results were strong. In 1971 Redman won at Imola and Hockenheim, took fourth at Laguna Seca, and Ganley finished third at Riverside. In 1972 Ganley won at the Nürburgring and Zeltweg, with Marko seventh at Imola.
At the end of 1972 the whole Can-Am project passed to David Hepworth. A planned outing at Interlagos, with Carlos Pace due to drive, ended when the ship carrying the car caught fire and returned to Southampton. After repairs Hepworth raced it in the 1973 Inter-Series, finishing tenth at Imola and at the Norisring. It is now shown in Alcan colours and is awaiting completion. The price is on application.
