The BMW 328 was the pre-war sports car that made the marque's reputation, and this 1938 roadster, chassis 85316, comes with an unusually colourful backstory. It was found as a wreck in the late 1960s, and its Czechoslovak title documents date from 4 November 1970, when it was registered in Bratislava. The paperwork lists a string of owners through the communist era to the present day, with official stamps along the way.
The car comes with a set of photographs showing it as found, with its original factory bodywork still in place before restoration, along with the original seats and seat frames. The restoration was carried out under the current ownership. The car is finished in metallic silver with a burgundy leather interior. A later twin-carburettor head is fitted to the original engine block.
Since the restoration was completed the car has seen little use. It sits in the current owner's collection in the Czech Republic, alongside a 327 Cabriolet and two 501s, and can be viewed there by appointment. No mileage or UK registration is given; the registration is listed as to be advised.
