Bentley S2 Continental H.J. Mulliner Coupe

This is chassis BC75BY, the forty-third of just seventy-one right-hand-drive S2 Continentals bodied by H.J. Mulliner to design number 7514. That is the finless two-door coupe style, built in aluminium and widely regarded as the cleanest of the S2 Continental designs. It was completed in April 1961 in Capri Blue with a blue leather interior, and it still wears that original combination.

Ownership is traced from new. The first owner was a Nottingham businessman. Later owners included the Kent Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialist Sargeants of Goudhurst. The current keeper has owned the car since 1980. In that time roughly £500,000 has been spent restoring it to show standard. Mechanical work was shared between Sargeants, Alastair Scott Services and Mulsanne Motors, and the bodywork and cosmetic restoration was done by MCW Van Der Meij in Holland.

The work was finished about five years ago, and the car has covered less than 2,000 miles since. The history file holds invoices, correspondence, photographs, the original logbook and copies of the chassis cards. The car also has a FIVA pass, a complete tool kit in its original Mulliner box, and the original handbooks in their 1961 paper wallet. The page gives no odometer reading.
