Bentley S1 LWB Touring Saloon

This is one of only 35 long-wheelbase Bentley S1s built from a run of 3,538, and one of just five to carry James Young coachwork. Styled by A. F. McNeill, the James Young saloon has a lighter glasshouse and shallower swage line than the factory cars. It was also priced well above the Standard Steel and Park Ward alternatives. Chassis ALB 20 was the first of the three James Young LWB saloons completed.

It was ordered through Jack Barclay by George Hickman and delivered in April 1959 to Drummond Brothers, his employer. Colin Moreton bought it in 1971 and the late owner took it on in 2001, so it has had three private owners from new. It has the 4.9-litre six-cylinder engine and four-speed automatic gearbox, with power steering and rear picnic tables.

The page describes the car as in very good condition. The body is straight, though the older silver-over-dark-blue repaint shows a few minor imperfections. The interior is believed to retain its original tan leather, which has been reconnolised. Woodwork has been refurbished and chrome replated, backed by almost £11,000 of receipts from the last nine years. The dealer says it runs and drives very well. No mileage or registration is given, and the page marks the car as "Accepted".
