Bentley S1 James Young B10

The S1 was Bentley's mid-1950s luxury saloon, here with coachwork by James Young of Bromley rather than the standard Pressed Steel body. This is the B10 design, of which only 26 were built, so it is a rare sight even among coachbuilt Bentleys of the period. It has the straight-six engine and a four-speed automatic gearbox.

The car was supplied new in September 1958 through Jack Barclay to Lord Mullens, who kept it until it was exported to the United States in 1974. Three American owners followed before Rolls-Royce and Bentley specialist Peter Fischer repatriated it in 1990. Two further UK keepers preceded the current owner, who has had it since 2009 and has used it for tours of Britain and Europe, including trips to Spain and Portugal.

In 2016 and 2017 the car was stripped for a full repaint. All 23 pieces of interior woodwork were removed, stripped and polished, and the leather was left with its patina. The aluminium panels needed only a few weld repairs. The chassis needed some too, and the inner sills were replaced. It left the factory in Midnight Blue and is now Antelope over Buttermilk.
