Bentley S1 Lightweight Saloon By H. J. Mulliner

This is one of only twelve S1 chassis fitted by H. J. Mulliner with its aluminium 'Lightweight' saloon body, a rear-hinged-door design with sharply defined rear wings that foreshadowed the Continental Flying Spur. The standard S1 used a steel Pressed Steel body with alloy panels, so the coachbuilt car is a rare variation on a car built in thousands.

Chassis B156BA was first registered UXK 362 in black with a tan interior. The factory fitted power steering, and it went new to Laycock Engineering of Sheffield for its managing director. It has had the same owner since 2012, who had it repainted in a very dark green. The page puts restoration spending at well over £100,000, and the car has been shown at concours events.

The work is itemised. Padgett Motor Engineers handled mechanical and bodywork repairs, including new floors, sills and B-pillar welding, completed in 2025 after a 2024 service. The interior was re-covered in Connolly leather in 2021 and 2022 by DTM Coachtrim and Simtrim. Copies of the factory build sheets, invoices and some MOT history come with the car. No mileage is stated.
