About this car

The S1 Continental with H.J. Mulliner's two-door fastback body is among the most desirable coachbuilt Bentleys of the 1950s. This car, chassis BC3AF, is described as the first of the Mulliner two-door saloon-bodied cars in the S1 series. It was first owned by Jack Barclay Ltd / MH Ferguson, and the page cites confirmation from the W.O. Bentley Memorial Foundation that Bentley displayed it on its own trade plate in September 1955.

Its history includes a spell with the actor Peter Sellers, before it left the UK for South Africa in 1984. There it passed to the collector W. Greyvensteyn and later to Nigel Sedgwick. Sedgwick had Kenworthy and Co. Vintage Motorworks carry out a bottom-up restoration over about seven years. The car is described as matching-numbers and is back on its original UK registration, 575GWC. It is documented in Davide Bassoli's Nubes Argentea books, and a certified factory record from the Rolls-Royce and Bentley enthusiasts' club is included.

It is finished in midnight blue and silver, with mushroom leather, blue carpets and burr walnut veneer. Electronic power steering and an uprated rear differential have been fitted. About 500 miles have been covered since the restoration, and no odometer reading is given.
