The SO33 is the factory-built Westfalia conversion of the Type 2 split-screen, and this 1963 example has the pop-up roof that makes it the most desirable of the camper layouts. It was built in Germany and exported new to the United States, where it ran on US plates.
It returned to the Netherlands in early 2015 for a full restoration by VW specialists, to Westfalia specification. The work included new wooden cabinetry, period-style upholstery, a refurbished pop-up roof section and a replacement modified 1.5-litre air-cooled rear engine. The paint is Cream over Grey Mouse, and the van has a radio and retro accessories. The interior converts to a flat bed.
The current owner bought it in 2017 as part of a private collection and has used it sparingly on rallies. It is currently on Irish registration and is located just north of Dublin. No mileage is stated.
