This TR7 was built on 19 September 1974, just as production began, and went to Triumph's experimental engineering fleet in Coventry. It was built to left-hand-drive North American specification, with a four-speed gearbox, air conditioning, a laminated windscreen and US bumpers, steering wheel and marker lights, some of which remain on the car. A British Motor Industry Heritage Trust certificate confirms the original LHD build, and the car has since been converted to right-hand drive. It was not registered in the UK until March 1976.
It still wears its factory Mimosa Yellow with black cord trim. The history file includes MOTs back to 1991, when the car showed 57,627 miles. It now reads 85,000 miles, which the dealer believes is correct. It was in a private collection until 2024. In 2020 Triumph specialist Dennis Vessey recommissioned it, with a rolling road set-up, carburettor overhaul, new engine and gearbox mountings and a new clutch.
The paint is presentable, the bodyshell straight and the upholstery aged but sound. The dealer describes it as a genuine, usable car rather than a concours example. It is exempt from the MOT as a historic vehicle, though a 12-month MOT can be supplied, and it will be serviced before sale.
