CSX 2448 is one of only 31 Independent Competition 289 Cobras, the lightweight, race-prepared cars built by Shelby American for private entrants. They used aluminium bodywork, flared arches, larger fuel tanks, competition suspension and uprated brakes, and they sit at the sharp end of the 289 Cobra story.
This car was billed to Shelby American in May 1964 and invoiced to the Foreign Car Center in Birmingham, Alabama, finished in red over black. Its first owner, Paul Wood, bought it at the end of 1964 and raced it in SCCA production-class events across the South with mechanic Bob Wallace. The results included second overall and first in class on its debut in Louisiana, plus further podiums and wins in Alabama and Georgia.
After later owners in Arizona and California, the car spent about 30 years in storage before Hall Fabrication & Racing began a restoration in 2006. The work cost more than $470,000, is documented in the history file, and aimed to preserve originality using new old-stock parts where needed. It later ran at Goodwood Speedweek, finished second overall at the 2020 Silverstone 3 Hrs and was shown at Villa d'Este in 2022. It also raced in the Goodwood Revival RAC Tourist Trophy in 2023 and 2024, with David Brabham among its drivers. The price is on application.

The maker’s official figures for this model, not measurements of this car ('Independent Comp' isn't a factory variant I can verify. Only the general 289 Cobra layout is given (Ford 289 cu in/4.7L V8, front engine, RWD). Competition-spec performance figures are left null because they varied by car and weren't published as factory data. AC built the chassis in England; Shelby American finished the cars in the US.).
