Rolls-Royce Silver Cloud III Pilkington Drophead Coupe

This Silver Cloud III began life in 1963 as a standard steel saloon, supplied new by Loxhams Garages of Preston, according to copy RREC build records. It was later converted to a drophead coupe by former H.J. Mulliner craftsman John McKenzie, following the coachbuilder's original design and with new wings and sills. A fax on file from Stephen Pilkington documents the conversion.

The odometer shows 66,762 miles. It had been recorded at 60,681 miles at an MOT in October 1989, and the previous keeper dry stored it for more than 23 years. Since the current ownership it has been restored, with a bare-metal respray in blue, a blue mohair hood, new tan leather, repolished walnut veneers and refinished brightwork.

Recent mechanical work includes a full engine rebuild with new liners and pistons, a gearbox refurbishment by Martin Lowe, new dampers, relined brakes, new master cylinders, a new water pump and a new radiator core. Working quarterlights replace the original fixed units. It has four electric windows, a power hood, rear picnic tables and a full tool kit. The registration TOF500 is available separately.
