Rolls-Royce Phantom V James Young 2-Door Coupe

This is chassis 5LBX76, one of only two two-door coupes that James Young built on the Phantom V platform, both for American clients. The pair were designed differently, and this one, PV55S, has a true coupe interior with near-equal legroom front and rear, intended for an owner-driver, and a slightly different roofline from its sister car.

It was delivered in February 1962 to Carlton W. Smith of West Carrollton, Ohio, originally in Alpine White over House of Lords Red leather. Later owners included John McComb and the early enthusiast Ernest Stern. The current owner has kept it in a collection of postwar coachbuilt Phantoms for many years. The original spec included electric windows, air conditioning, a Smiths Radiomobile radio and reading lights for rear passengers.

The car has been fully restored in Sand over Garnet. The dealer describes the interior as well preserved, with a correct jack and a partial set of road tools in the boot. Copies of the Rolls-Royce Foundation build and ownership records come with it, along with the original radio guarantee card in Mr Smith's name. The indicated 45,000 miles are believed to be correct from new. It is German registered, with the plate listed as to be advised.
