About this car

This 1928 Rolls-Royce 20hp wears four-light owner-driver saloon coachwork by Henry Binder, one of the best-known Parisian coachbuilders. The page says only twenty Binder bodies were fitted to the 20hp chassis. It was supplied new through the Paris agency and shown there as the 1928 Paris show car.

Its history is well documented. It went to the United States, to Illinois and then a ranch in Wyoming, and passed in 1941 to Charles Shoup, later president of the Rolls-Royce Owners' Club. David Else, a marine engineer, owned it from 1992 to 2018. He restored it nut and bolt, kept detailed records and toured it on two long continental trips. The history file logs journeys and mileages, and includes 21 pages of fuel-consumption notes averaging 18mpg. Nine photo albums record the work, including the new interior and headlining.

The car is finished in dark maroon with black wings and roof. It has beige leather seats, a new wool headlining, original instruments and an AT speedometer reading in both kilometres and miles. A 20/25 cylinder head was fitted at some point in its past, which the page credits for its lively performance. It also has a period motoring trunk with touring spares. The listing shows the price as accepted.
