About this car

This 1932 Rolls-Royce 20/25 carries a four-light saloon body by Hooper, with a division between the front and rear compartments. The dealer describes it as formal in style but well suited to driving yourself. The first owner, an army major, had it delivered new to the recently opened Dorchester Hotel. He specified a bonnet slightly longer than standard, which gives the car a Phantom-like profile.

The chassis is described as low-mileage, though no odometer figure is given. It has had the same owner for about 15 years, and during that time it received a full engine rebuild and was used sparingly. Hooper patent signal indicators are fitted, illuminated tubes that slide out of recessed housings in the roof. The dealer says he has seen only two other cars with them.

The paint is Hooper Lake Purple over black, and the four wings have recently been refinished in black. The front seats are burgundy leather, and the rear has red cloth and carpets with fold-out footrests. Other features are a rear motoring trunk with three fitted cases, twin side-mounted spares, a front spot lamp, twin horns, a tool kit and the original handbook. A full service by marque specialist C.J. Ford Engineering is being carried out before sale.

Performance

The maker’s official figures for this model, not measurements of this car (Chassis basics only: Rolls-Royce built the 20/25 at Derby with a front-mounted, naturally aspirated straight-six driving the rear wheels. Rolls-Royce never published power figures, and the Hooper coachbuilt body has no official weight or performance data. Published displacement figures conflict (3,669 vs 3,699 cc), so it is left null.).
