Renault AH 4 Cylinder

This 1906 Renault AH is a rare veteran-era survivor, with only a handful of the type known worldwide. It was supplied new to the UK and still carries its original coachwork by Starey's & Wolleys of Nottingham. Chassis number 6061, registered AU210.

The current owner has had it for around 15 years. Soon after buying it he had the engine rebuilt with new pistons and replaced the troublesome Claudel Hobson carburettor with a Zenith, which improved running and starting. The gearbox is a tumbler-type sequential unit with three forward ratios. Braking is by a pedal acting on the rear wheels plus a transmission handbrake.

The car is finished in patinated green coach paint with white fine lines, on wooden spoked wheels, and has a full hood and side screens. The green buttoned leather seats are newer than the original trim, which looked worn in an early 1960s photograph. Otherwise the car feels largely untouched. Large bills from a noted veteran specialist for gearbox and engine work are on file, along with an early VCC dating plaque and a certificate issued in 1955. It is currently in South West Wales.
