This 1972 911E is one of only 95 Sportomatic cars built that year, and probably one of very few to leave the factory in Aubergine, a deep purple. It sits in the pre-impact-bumper era of 911s that collectors favour, and the 2.4-litre E model is the fuel-injected middle car of the range.
The car has covered 72,500 miles (116,000 km) and has had five keepers from new, two of them father and son. The Porsche Certificate of Authenticity confirms the original colour combination of Aubergine with beige leatherette and corduroy seats, and a matching engine number. Factory options listed are polished Fuchs alloy wheels, comfort equipment and tinted electric windows.
It was delivered new in France in December 1971, moved to London in the 1970s and was first UK registered in December 1989. A thick history file holds MoT certificates, tax discs, correspondence and invoices. The paintwork has recently been refinished, bare metal and glass out.

The maker’s official figures for this model, not measurements of this car (Porsche factory data for 1972 911 E 2.4 (165 PS DIN, 2341 cc); Sportomatic-specific weight/top speed not confidently known so left null).
