Listed today at Export 56, Cranfield.
An early 356 A Speedster from 1956, the stripped-back open Porsche that did much to establish the company in America. This one is a matching-numbers car with a four-speed manual gearbox and the 1582cc flat-four, rated at 60 bhp in factory form.
It is finished in Ruby Red, repainted about ten years ago in its original colour, over a black interior. The bucket seats and door panels are said to be original to 1956. Recent additions include a new tonneau cover, side curtains and headlight grilles, and it has a luggage rack and a 12V electrical conversion.
An original Porsche Certificate of Authenticity confirms it as a 1956 356 Speedster, and the Reutter coachworks badge carries the expected stamping. It has had three owners from new and shows 58,350 miles. The dealer owned and drove it for two years.

The maker’s official figures for this model, not measurements of this car (Layout only (air-cooled rear-engined flat-four, RWD), from Porsche historical records. Performance figures withheld because the engine isn't specified: 1956 356 A Speedsters came as 1600, 1600 Super or Carrera 1500 GS.).
