This 1964 Mini Cooper S has been built for historic competition. It comes with a Historic Technical Passport valid until 2033, which allows it to run in Period F Competition Touring Car racing and hill climbs, within the FIA CT6 class.
The 1000cc engine was fully rebuilt by marque specialist Mervyn Johnston with a new crankshaft, camshaft, conrods and pistons, at a cost of £7,500. It runs twin H4 SU carburettors fed by an electric pump from a foam-filled tank, and was tuned on a rolling road by Big Brothers of North Yorkshire. A Salisbury Powr-Lok limited-slip differential and a straight-cut BMC four-speed gearbox, with synchromesh on the top three gears, handle the drive.
Front brakes have been upgraded to two-pot calipers, and the car has a seamless carbon steel roll cage. Most of the race conversion was done by a previous owner and signed off by Motorsport UK. The car is now with its dealer from its fourth owner in East Yorkshire.
