This 1959 MGA 1600 Coupe has genuine competition history. Chassis GHD/72014 was built on 22 July 1959 and supplied new through Parkside Garage in Coventry, finished in Chariot Red with black trim, steel wheels and competition seats. Its first owner, Frank 'Cliff' Ward, drove it solo from The Hague to Monaco in the 1960 Monte Carlo Rally and finished 130th overall, which makes it one of very few privateer MGAs to complete the event.
The 1600 brought the 1,588cc B-series engine and front disc brakes, and the closed Coupe is the rarer body: about 2,759 were built with the Mk I 1600 engine. This car keeps its correct engine and four-speed manual gearbox.
It was restored nut and bolt between 2010 and 2014. In 2021 Valoroso Race & Restoration Services spent more than £20,000 recommissioning it, with renewed suspension and brakes. Paperwork includes a BMIHT certificate, historic rally plates, period photographs, the original green buff logbook, a history file, recent maintenance records and a FIVA identity card. The page shows 9,686 miles. The price is on application.

The maker’s official figures for this model, not measurements of this car (BMC/MG published engine data for the 1600 Mk I (1588cc B-series, 79.5 bhp gross); weight and performance left null because the widely quoted figures come from magazine road tests, not the factory.).
